Description:
A clear, bright purple solution, containing 25 mg/mL oxytetracycline hydrochloride and 40 mg/mL gentian violet.
Indication:
Treatment of topical infections caused by, or associated with, organisms sensitive to oxytetracycline hydrochloride and gentian violet in all species except fibre-producing animals. Treatment of cuts and wounds.
Mode of action:
Oxytetracycline hydrochloride is a very stable bacteriostatic broad spectrum antibiotic that interferes with the protein synthesis of Gram-ve and Gram+ve bacteria, Rickettsia, Chlamydia, some species of Mycoplasma and protozoa. This action is not appreciably affected by blood, and tissue breakdown products. Gentian violet is an antiseptic and antifungal dye acting predominantly against Gram+ve bacteria by interfering with the micro-organism’s cell wall. This ingredient is also useful to identify the areas treated.
Directions for use:
For topical use only. Shake before use. Remove any dead tissue, dried serum or secretions and debris from infection site. Hold pump pack upright approximately 8–15 cm from the surface and cover affected areas completely once or twice daily for 3–5 days. Each pressure pump spray will cover an area of 6 cm in diameter.
Contraindications:
Do not use in fibre-producing animals as this product is not scourable. This product is toxic to aquatic organisms.
